Blowout victories from the Golden State Warriors in the first two contests of the NBA Finals didn’t turn away the viewers.

The Associated Press cited Nielsen company numbers Monday and noted the first two games of the third straight showdown between the Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers averaged 19.6 million viewers, which is a 5 percent increase from last year.

According to the AP, Sunday’s Game 2 averaged 20.1 million viewers, which was the highest for an NBA Finals Game 2 since Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls battled the Utah Jazz in 1998.

Those viewers have been treated to pure dominance through two games.

Golden State steamrolled the Cavs by 22 points in Game 1 and scored 132 points in a 19-point win in Game 2. The Warriors still haven’t lost through 14 games in these playoffs and are two more wins away from taking the Larry O’Brien Trophy back from Cleveland.

Fans love star power, so it is no surprise so many have tuned in despite the blowouts. Between LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, there are enough superstars to host an All-Star Game in between Finals contests.

There are also plenty of storylines in play between history (this is the first time in league history two teams have played in three straight Finals), the narrative of Durant forming a superteam and the 3-1 redemption tour for Golden State.

Cleveland overcame a 3-1 deficit in last year’s Finals and will have to overcome a 2-0 one this year as the Finals shift back to Ohio for Wednesday’s Game 3. If the first two games are any indication, plenty of people will watch to see if the Cavaliers can complete another comeback.

NBA Finals 2017, Golden State Warriors v Cleveland Cavaliers game one: Hello and welcome to our coverage of the first meeting in the seven-game series. The Warriors have scored a huge win, taking game one 113-91.

Kevin Durant drove through the lane untouched for dazzling dunks time and again, finishing with 38 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in his first NBA Finals for Golden State and leading the Warriors past LeBron James and the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers, 113-91 on Thursday in Game 1.

Stephen Curry scored 28 points with six 3-pointers and 10 assists as this sure- to-be thrilling trilogy began at last, a long-expected, spectacular grand finale envisioned ever since that July day Durant left Oklahoma City to join the loaded Warriors.

James wound up with 28 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists a day after dealing with bigotry far away from basketball. Someone painted a racial slur – the N-word – on the gate of his Los Angeles home, leaving James to address racism rather than his seventh straight Finals appearance or stopping KD. James said he would do his best to be ready for the series opener when his mind was elsewhere, concerned for his wife and children back in Ohio.

Like a year ago, the Golden State Warriors defended Oracle arena in emphatic fashion, trouncing the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-91 in a blowout meant to set the tone for the rest of the series.

If only it were so simple.

Where this series is dramatically different isn’t hard to figure out (hint: it starts at Kevin and ends at Durant) by any means, but whether the difference creates a Warriors revenge tale is much harder to discern.

No matter how it pans out, this has the feel of a seven-game series, so here’s a look at the schedule:

Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry combined for 66 points and 18 assists and the Golden State Warriors rolled to a 113-91 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday.

Now the question is: How do the Cavaliers respond?

Cleveland was outscored 56-30 in the paint, 27-9 in fast break points and 53-39 in the second half of Thursday’s Game 1 loss.

LeBron James finished with 28 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists, but contributed eight of the Cavaliers’ 20 turnovers.
